Stoney Point Intermediate Tab PartC - Acoustic Guitar Lesson
Third Lesson on This Norman Blake and Tony Rice piece.
Here is the third and final part of the song Stoney Point as performed by the great guitar duo of Norman Blake and Tony Rice, on their CD Blake and Rice.
If you haven't already, you should review the first 2 parts of this song. You can find those by clicking the links below.
The third part of the song illustrated here is very similar to the other parts of the song, so if you mastered those lessons, you will not have any problems with this lesson.
In looking at the TAB and notation below, note that the lesson actually begins with the triplet hammer-on series in the last beat of the 2nd measure.
As before, in the previous parts of this song will will play this song in what I call the open second position where you shift your LH fingering up one fret and play the 2nd fret with the first finger, the 3rd fret with the second finger and so on....
Try to keep your LH fingers anchored to the fretboard as long as you can so the note with ring through each other as this will make you sound much smoother when playing this break.
If you wish to play through this break (all three parts), simply play the triplet hammer-on in the last beat of the last measure and go right back to the beginning of the song to continue.
If you are looking to close out the break you can stop at the 3rd beat of the last measure and play open G as a half note, giving it 2 beats in lieu of one beat as shown.
If you would like to experiment, you can play Stoney Point one octave lower than indicated here in these lessons. This is one of the versions that Norman plays on the CD.
The easiest way for you to do this is to download the GuitarPro version of the song that I have given you and add it to the file. Just copy all of the part and paste them at the end of the break.
Next select all the notes and go to the Notes Menu and select the Octavation option to automatically change the notes to a lower octave. You will need to make minor changes, but most of the work is done for you.
If you would like the Guitar Pro File for this break, which is very faithful to the song and will allow you to make your own unique break, play along with this break, and give you the speed training option, you can load it here: Stoney Point Intermediate Tab PartC, Guitar Pro File.
